Perimenopause: A TCM Perspective on a Woman’s Transition
The word perimenopause is relatively modern. However, the experience is ancient. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) did not describe perimenopause as a distinct medical condition in the way we understand it today. Instead, classical Chinese medical texts described the physiological changes women experience throughout their lives, including the gradual transition towards the end of menstruation. Development → Menstruation → Maturity → Vitality → Change → Transition → Menopause

TOOTH-ORGAN RELATIONSHIP IN CHINESE MEDICINE
I became more conscious about the importance of oral health a couple of years ago when I was diagnosed with periodontal disease. I was devastated to learn that many of my dental pockets were extremely deep, and the official prognosis was that this condition was irreversible! After calming down from the shock, I started to search for studies and literature on alternative and natural ways to heal this obstinate, and apparently, epidemic oral disease. I was convinced that there

PING SHUAI GONG – a simple exercise that helps induce an alpha state
I was introduced to this exercise during my apprenticeship with an acupuncturist from Taiwan. Regardless of their condition, he taught his patients an exercise involving swinging arms and bending knees. He instructed them to perform it daily for 15 minutes. He did not provide a specific name for the exercise or explain its effects. The fact that he devoted additional time to educating all of his patients about this exercise left a significant impression on me. When I returned

ACUPUNCTURE FOR BALANCE
Yesterday I had my last acupuncture treatment of the year. I wanted to use up my annual insurance coverage for alternative medicine. The day was crisp and cold, and we are in complete lockdown here in the Netherlands; not much choice where to spend time outside of my home, anyway. My acupuncturist decided to give me a "balance treatment", as she calls it, since I had no special issues to address. This is also called acupuncture for general health and wellbeing. A wonderful pr
