MOXIBUSTION & CUPPING

In addition to acupuncture, these modalities may be offered at the time of your treatment, depending on your problem. These complimentary therapies provide the additional BENEFITS of boosting the immune system by improving lymphatic flow, removing toxins from the body, calming the nervous system and reducing stress, increasing blood circulation to the muscles, organs and  the brain; activating the secretion of synovial fluid in joints; regulating the digestive system; and warming areas of stagnation that cause pain or infertility.

MOXIBUSTION is warming therapy that involves the burning of mugwort to stimulate circulation to an acupuncture point or region of the body. Its purpose is to strengthen the blood, stimulate the flow of Qi, and maintaine good health. This method is especially effective in the treatment of chronic joint pain, menstrual disorders, infertility, fatigue, and breech position of a baby.

CUPPING involves the application of small glass, plastic, or silicone cups to the body through suction, which remain on the body  for 10 to 15 minutes or are gently moved along the muscular structures. This creates a myofascial release in the tissues, releases stagnation, and increases blood flow. As a result, it relieves back and neck pain, stiff muscles, common colds, stomachaches, fatigue, migrains, asthma, and anxiety. Most people find it pleasant and relaxing.

The marks from cupping may look intimidating at first, but they are actually just the result  of suction on your skin and will fade away soon.  Before you get a cupping treatment, make sure to eat something, as it moves a lot of blood and if you have a low sugar, it can make you feel a bit dizzy and lightheaded.
