Cupping & Moxibustion

In addition to acupuncture, I may use other Traditional Chinese Medicine techniques during your treatment, depending on your individual needs and health concerns. Cupping and moxibustion can be used alongside acupuncture as complementary approaches to support relaxation, circulation and overall well-being.

The treatment method is always selected according to your individual situation and may be adapted as your treatment progresses.

Cupping

Cupping is a traditional Chinese medicine technique in which small glass, plastic or silicone cups are placed on the skin using gentle suction. The cups may remain in place for several minutes or, when appropriate, be gently moved across the skin.

Cupping is traditionally used to support the movement of Qi and blood and may be helpful when there is muscular tension, stiffness or discomfort. Many people also experience it as a deeply relaxing treatment.

Cupping can be used alongside acupuncture or as a complementary treatment, depending on your individual needs and TCM diagnosis.

What to expect after cupping

Cupping can leave temporary circular marks on the skin. These marks are a normal result of the suction and are not usually painful. Their colour and how long they remain can vary from person to person, and they generally fade within several days.

It may be helpful to have something to eat before your cupping treatment, especially if you are prone to feeling lightheaded. I will always guide you through the treatment and make sure you are comfortable.

Moxibustion

Moxibustion is a traditional Chinese medicine technique that involves gently warming acupuncture points or areas of the body with burning mugwort, usually in the form of a moxa stick or cone.

The warmth of moxibustion is traditionally used to support the flow of Qi and blood and to warm areas of the body where there may be cold or stagnation, according to a TCM diagnosis.

I may use moxibustion alongside acupuncture when I feel it is appropriate for your individual needs. It can be particularly comforting when warmth may be beneficial, and many people find the treatment deeply relaxing.
